Northamptonshire Mind is the county’s largest mental health charity and part of the national Mind federation. Like many charities, the priority is putting as much resource as possible into delivering services, so having a full-time marketing specialist wasn’t an option. That’s where I came in.
For nine months, I became their fractional Marketing Lead, helping to rethink how the charity talked about itself and build recognition across Northamptonshire.
I advised on marketing strategy, designed and delivered the charity’s 60th anniversary campaign, secured regional press coverage, trained staff to feel more confident about marketing and communications, and helped the organisation navigate some particularly challenging moments.
My role later moved beyond marketing and into community engagement. For a further nine months, I project managed one of the charity’s community hubs, building local partnerships, getting to know the community, developing activities and securing in-kind support from local businesses and organisations.
It’s a good example of where the two sides of my work meet: using communications to connect with people, then turning those connections into meaningful community engagement.
As someone with lived experience of depression and anxiety, working with Northamptonshire Mind has also been some of the most personally fulfilling work I’ve done.
